I was definitely getting some vibes that probably the previous post should have been two posts, “adoption!” and then “some thoughts about travel”… well, live and learn! (I also think, I just don’t like to talk about myself, which restrained me.) But for the people who were really enjoying the former and wanted more, I will dare to publish two posts in a single day to at least give you a few more photos. So here you go.
The first one here is shortly after we met Kriti at the orphanage, so some slightly nervous people just getting to know each other here. The orphanage staff was great, very kind and helpful. No photo of this but Kriti did also walk us over to show us the playground and swing a little bit.
Also, because someone asked, she has a nice smile and is visibly happy quite often! She does not have the custom of smiling in photos down. That actually didn’t bother me at all, but if you’re worried that “this person never seems to be happy”, you can stop worrying, that is not true.
Then this was shortly after getting back to the hotel room first day. There was, and is, a bit of a language gap (she natively speaks Hindi, and knows some English, and we learned just a little Hindi)… but actually, when doing math, everyone involved knows all the words you need! So here is Bec working some math with her.
And then this was, I think two days later (because we had stuff to do at the US embassy the next day), at the Lodi Gardens, which were also mentioned in the previous post. I enjoyed that there were parakeets and peacocks (actually we just saw peahens) wild in the garden.
And here we are at one tomb in the Lodi Gardens.
And then here is a photo taken after getting back to the hotel that evening. Those are made from real marigolds, they aren’t plastic, so Bec was super impressed and wanted a photo.
The day after that we went to a sort of precursor structure to the Taj Mahal, in Delhi. (We also went, before this, to the Science Centre in Delhi, hence the “Future Physicist” shirt perhaps you can make out.)
Behold.
Hey, we’re rocking a little bit of a smile here. This was taken from the sort of balcony of the tomb structure, looking down toward the garden where we were just standing in the photo above.
And this was a side tomb at the same site, for Isa Khan. A very kind security guard who just decided to give us a tour took this photo. I told him we had just adopted her so we were grateful for the photos and he seemed quite moved by that. I hope we made him think he had done something good that day.
And finally a couple of days (depending on how you count that 15 hours in the air) later, back in the United States, dining at O’Hare!
And finally finally, Bec teaching English like thirty minutes ago. We bring you late breaking news here people.
There we go, the all happy adoption photos post that should have perhaps been what I did initially. :). We are getting along well so far, she and Bec are bonding well. I don’t know how much of it is “everything is new” nervousness, but Kriti has been quite peaceable and content (the orphanage did say she was very sweet). And it is fun to discover her personality. I have joked that she is presbyterian because she clearly has an interest in things existing in good order, she does a lot of organizing things and making sure all the corners are square and such.
Thank you all for your prayers and support.
How wonderful! I’m an adoptive mom and love seeing others’ pictures!
Congratulations! So happy for you all! Thanks for sharing about it
