Here is our Chief Tomatoist inspecting the fruit development yesterday!
Almost exactly one year ago I wrote a post to say we were trying a driveway garden. We have a small, heavily-shaded yard, and then a decent size driveway that we don’t much use, not owning an automobile, that gets lots of sun. So why not grow things in pots in the driveway?
The garden is just slightly expanded this year with two more raised planters.
And yes, that is our neighbors on the right there, and although they do own one automobile, I think they are somehow even more eager bicycle commuters than we are (you can barely make out that the bicycle back there is specifically a cargo bicycle).
Not much has changed on the smaller left side… I am very much not sure that putting pumpkins in an elevated planter was a good idea, I was not consulted about this particular decision! We shall see what happens.
AND THEN… here are a few closeup photos, all from the last week, so you may enjoy the hopeful plant-y happiness.
Blueberries:
Cucumbers:
Peppers:
Potatoes:
Here is our little lemon tree. Actually, if anyone could advise me on why most of the branches from last year seem to have died (the plant was taken indoors over winter), but then some new branches are doing well, I would be happy to hear that explanation.
Tomatoes:
Watermelon:
Pumpkins:
And finally, onions and onions!
If you have any comments or advice I would be happy to hear them. Otherwise, thank you for dropping by for year two.
Beautiful!
A lot of hard work, and good success: a beautiful growing season.
