The piece is about a health care conscience protections fight going in Illinois, with some thoughts about wider implications toward the end. They have titled it “Illinois Democrats Want To Nuke Conscience Protection Law To Eliminate Exceptions To Vaccine Mandates” and I will just direct you over there to read it (but you can comment here if you’d like).
For those who want a “peek behind the curtain”, it actually started life as a Substack draft that was a little lighter on the reporting and heavier on the philosophical commentary than the final publication. Thanks to Federalist contributor Kyle Sammin for the encouragement to submit it over there, and Nicholas Haggin for letting me know about what was going on in Illinois in the first place.
The Bittner quote: "never intended to allow people to avoid public health guidance during a global pandemic." She talks as though no one in 1998 had any experience with pandemics. We know what Pritzker wants--even people like me who don't live within a thousand miles of Illinois--and the question is whether he gets his way. He has no great good principles.
