Also considering the 1970 publication, people used to be much more aware of nuclear weapons and nuclear war as something that "following the science" could lead to. Somehow there seem to be no groups anymore that press for de-nuclearization. Obama talked about it as a goal but I don't recall Trump or Biden ever promoting disarmament.
Barely related to your post are three separate stats bouncing in my brain, the first of which I heard Dennis Prager talk about Thursday: 25% of Homeschoolers don't go to college (he said it's not because they aren't prepared but they have other/better values), 40% of (all) people who go to college don't finish, and women are getting 60% ( and growing) of the undergrad degrees.
