I came across this piece by Stefano Zamagni, quoted below, via a piece by Aaron Kheriaty. Can I say that it is interesting to me how overrepresented Christians are when it comes to people offering intelligent opposition to what Zamagni calls the “pandemic phenomenon” (a phenomenon that has now gone far past the mere existence of a disease and so perhaps deserves another name)? And I think that makes sense, because sometimes on a conscious level and (perhaps more often) on an intuitive level, we recognize that the world is operating from assumptions contradicted by our faith.
Yeah, Archbishop Sample of the Archdiocese of Portland, Oregon recently made the statement that "Christendom is over, we are in an Apostolic Age". So many of the behaviors and edicts resulting from this pandemic drive this point home. Paul tells us "do not let the sun set on our anger" yet Biden on 9/9 told all vaccinated Americans to be angry at the unvaccinated; the fourth commandment forbids killing, yet the FDA has approved a vaccine that's killed tens of thousands and seriously injured far more. I think Sample is right; we can not longer look to society or the state to uphold basic principles of Christianity.
