One of the things I've realized more fully recently is how deeply experts, politicians, or whatever class of detached "thinker" professionals you want to think of, can lose the way. I mean, in the sense Dante wrote at the start of his Inferno: "The right road lost and vanished in the maze."

It's happened with lockdowns at so many levels of society, in so much of the world.

Here in Europe, banking regulation follows the model of politics. Yes, there are some people who have spent time on both sides of the fence, but mostly both the regulators and the regulated recruit staff directly from university, and teach them their ways. In such an environment, "problems" can be cultivated nicely (until they fit the "solutions").

Thank you also for the book recommendation. I will have a look. My guess: it will seem very strange to European eyes, even Christian.
